The Greyville Convention Centre Completes Final Refurbishment of All Event Venues

The Greyville Convention Centre is getting set for a new dimension of excellence in events service to the South African public. Synonymous with style, class, elegance, the centre aims to raise the bar on the holistic event experience, with particular attention to décor, food, lighting, venue acoustics, and value-for-money without sparing any effort on the finished product.

Teams have been hard at work, pulling together the first phase of development. All of the seven main event venues have undergone soft refurbishments, which had commenced in the latter part of 2014.

One of the most critical areas of focus was in giving all of the rooms a complete overhaul. Part of the facelift to Greyville Convention Centre, included the  new R1.4 million production kitchen that has been commissioned adjacent to the centres premier 1600 seater roof top Silver Ring Room.

Greyville Convention Centre is inarguably becoming a force to be reckoned with, due to its number of dynamic and prestigious venues. Alan Vels, The Executive Director of The Greyville Convention Centre was excited about the refurbishments being done as he shed some light on the magnitude of the upgrades being done.  He said, “we commenced with the multi million rand upgrade in late 2014 and are comfortable to say that all the premier venues capable to host groups from 80 to 2000 are now in superb condition and have been transformed to suite the various target markets we are receiving inquiries from.”

He went on to explain that a number of rooms are actually suited to corporate events, while others have been tailored for large scale concerts and private celebrations. Equally, another draw card of being able to host events at the Greyville Convention Centre are the 5000 free parking bays on site, the ability to do large scale outdoor events and exhibitions and the affordability, flexibility and pricing of the venues.

The Greyville Convention Centre has already held a few exciting events this year. There was the Guinness World Record attempt at holding the longest dining table in the world, the end of summer ‘Get Wet’ Pool Party, both of which took place in April. Some forthcoming attractions include the International Strut Your Stuff Auto Showcase in October, The KZN Philharmonic Series, an International Oktoberfest, Sportex in October, the million rand hole in one Stadium Golf week in July, the Gold Cup Fashion Week in July and a host of soon to be announced additions. With these and so many more events to look forward to, it has become clear that the Greyville Convention Centre has become the first choice destination for event organisers in Durban.
